( HACKET SAWMILL )
Josephine County - O'Brien
October 31, 1940: "Good news came to the valley last week when it was learned that Claude Hacket, of Portland, had purchased the old Woodbury & Slack mill at O'Brien and would operate it this winter.
The mill started last Saturday, but Monday was really the first days of operation, Saturday being the initial tryout and getting the mill in shape for a long season run.
A. E. Williams is in charge of the logging operations and at present the mill is using logs from Mr. Williams place. When this supply is exhausted other property will be secured and a continued supply is available for all winter's operations.
The mill will cut approximately 20,000 feet a day, and at present all the lumber is being shipped green to Portland. About 15 men will receive employment from the mill and two trucks will be kept busy and a cat." (Illinois Valley News)
