August 9, 1918: "Lumber is now being hauled from the Spaulding mill near Duncan's, about two miles from town (Kerby) to the railroad for shipment. Mr. Friday is the main truck man in lumber hauling." (Grants Pass Daily Courier)
April 24, 1922: "The Spaulding sawmill at Kerby will start operations in about a week, according to Eldon Spaulding who is in the city today. Mr. Spaulding states that the Swede Basin mill will be operated as soon as the snow disappears from the hills sufficiently. At present there is about five feet on the ground."
