KENDELL & SAUNDERS
Josephine County - near Holland
January 19, 1945: "A new whistle blew in the valley last Tuesday morning when the Kindell & Saunders Lumber company mill on the Caves highway near Holland started the mill.
A small crew of men worked Tuesday getting out timbers for the loading decks which will be constructed immediately. As soon as they are ready the mill is expected to start full-time operations with about 14 new positions made available from this mill.
The mill has been under construction for a long time. Frank Rhodes of Medford started it about two years ago this spring, and was never finished until Kindell and Saunders bought the property.
Last Tuesday's operations uncovered some small detail problems which will be ironed out in the full scale operation of the mill but the owners were agreeably surprised at the speed of the production and the power developed.
Kindell & Saunders have leased the operation of the mill to Salvage Brothers. Mr. Saunders will be with them in an advisory capacity, to help unravel any difficulties if they develop.
Full speed ahead is expected to be given in about one week to ten days, at which time another new industry will be born inn the valley---bringing a substantial increase to the valley payroll statistics." (Illinois Valley News)

February 8, 1945: "The Kendell & Saunders mill, just off the Caves highway on the Holland road, are now operating and have most of the kinks out on this brand new mill. It is hoped that a new carriage can be procured in the near future which will greatly increase the capacity of the mill. Messrs. Kendell and Saunders have leased the operation of the mill to Salvage brothers, and a full crew is now at work there.
