March 13, 1880: “Mr. Bunch has consummated a bargain with Mr. Mehl and Mr. Collyer for land in this place (Coquille), on which to build a grist and saw mill.” (The Coast Mail)

June 12, 1880: “The machinery for the new saw and flour mill for Coquille City, did not come in on the Champion or Mose, but will probably come in on the Free Trade, as will also the machinery for Hoover & Co., of Norway.” (The Coast Mail)
July 10, 1880: “Machinery Arrived.---The schooner Free Trade arrived in the Coquille last Saturday, with the machinery for Bunches new mill that is in process of erection at Coquille City. The mill is to be a grist and saw mill combined, and the owners expect to commence cutting timber within a month. The grist mill will probably be in operation soon after the commencement of harvest.” (The Coast Mail)
July 31, 1880: “The loggers of this part of the country are kept employed putting in logs, as lumber is now in better demand, since Mr. Bunch's new mill has been put up at Coquille City; and a better quality of lumber cannot be had elsewhere than on the Coquille river.” (The Coast Mail)
