McCURE'S SAWMILL
January 9, 1875: "Automatic Shingle Machine---The Corvallis Gazette says that one of these ingenious machines---the first in the State---has been put in operation there by Mr. George Stevens, at McCure's saw-mill. It has a capacity of from 35 to 75,00 per day, the shingles being from 16 to 22 inches and any thickness desired. Large orders from Albany and other improving places have been received, and Mr. Stevens will be apt to be well repaid for his enterprise. The machine is known as Whites Improved Automatic Shingle Machine, manufactured by W. H. Hinner & Co., Union Iron Works, Fon du Lac, Wisconsin." (Weekly Oregon Statesman)
