J. G. SUGAR PINE COMPANY
Douglas County - Tiller
May 1, 1940: "Work is progressing rapidly on the plant of the J. G. Sugar Pine company at Tiller, on what was formerly the rodeo grounds. The mill pond, water for which is taken from Salt creek, has been completed and construction on the mill is well under way. It is expected that it will be in operation by the middle of July with a capacity of 40,000 feet per day and furnish employment for about 40 men, including both those working in the mill and in logging operations. Sugar pine timber is being obtained from properties up river from the South Umpqua CCC camp and the logs are trucked to the mill site. After sawing, the lumber will be trucked to the railroad either at Myrtle Creek or Riddle. Elton Jackso is manager for the company." (The News-Review)
