November 10, 1921: "Willis Van Fossen was seriously scalded last Friday afternoon when the boiler of the engine he was driving blew out and the escaping steam and water scalded him from head to foot. He was unable to escape from the engine in time to save himself, although several others who were near got away without being burned. He was taken to the Pemberton hospital and his condition has been very serious but at present he is showing signs of improvement and it is hoped he will recover." (Southern Coos County American)
