May 7, 1908: “C. H. Crumpacker, while rolling logs at the Lewis saw mill Tuesday forenoon, escaped death only because of his great strength. He had started a 16 foot log, that scaled 625 feet, down a hill when his glove caught on a knot on the log and he was thrown over and infront of the big timber. He caught and held the log with his shoulder until mill hands rolled it aside. He escaped with a painfully mashed and bruised shoulder and a few other bruises. He is catcher of the enterprise baseball club and both he and the club are afraid he will be out of the game for a week or two.” (The News Record)
