PFEIFFER LUMBER COMPANY
Yoncalla
February 26, 1962: "A continual search for new methods of lumber production and new lumber products has led the Pfeiffer Lumber Corp. of Yoncalla into more specialization.
Herman Pfeiffer, corporation president, noted this in reviewing his mill's production over the past year. While continuing straight production of lumber products, the Pfeiffer firm has found a certain margin of profit available in specialty items which is lost in straight production.
Consequently, the 12-man operation produces ties, 3 x 4's, 4 x 4's, cross arms and studs. Green production composes 75 per cent of the mill's output while to rest is dried in the kiln.
The Pfeiffer firm buys many of its logs on the open market. However, it does purchase timber stands and then contracts to have the stands cut.
In the past year, with a few minor shutdowns, the firm produced 6 million board feet of lumber. The firm has existed since 1953 and was closed almost a year during a period which began in 1957 and ended in 1958.
Pfeiffer, a 1938 graduate of Iowa State College, was an independent cruiser before getting the corporation started. His vice-president id John Gertsen and his wife, Margaret Pfeiffer, is the corporation secretary-treasurer." (The News-Review)
