September 5, 1901: "C. S. and Bob Benefiel, the lumber men of Chewaucan, were here last week on land business, and were overlooked by our reporter. The former had complied with the law and made proof of a new timber land claim before the local land office. Benefiel Bros. now have a choice belt of timber, sufficient to keep their mill saws going at full speed for many years to come." (Lake County Examiner)
January 16, 1902: “C. S. Benefiel gives the Post some figures on the output of the Chewaucan Lumber Co. for the past year. He says the mill has cut 350,000 feet of lumber this season, 30,000 feet of which is still in the yard and 20,000 feet has been used in buildings about the mill, making the sales about 300,000 feet. The lumber will average close to $14 per M. counting clear lumber. They have also made about 225,000 shingles, 20 per cent of which were second grade. The shingles averaged $3 per M. They have yet in the timber about 200 logs out of the 1000 cut last winter, and it is their aim to prepare for a big run next season.” (Lake County Examiner)
August 17, 1905: "C. S. Benefiel of the Chewaucan Lumber Co., came down from Paisley last Friday after a new wagon and set of harness. Mr. Benefiel and family are starting on a month's camping trip, and will see the Coos Bay country and possibly the Fair before returning. During the absence of Mr. Benefiel his sawmill will be in charge of his brother as will be seen in a notice in this issue of THE EXAMINER." (Lake County Examiner)
