J. A. EVANS SAWMILL
8 miles east of Union
June 12, 1909: "The sawmill and planer owned by J. A. Evans, eight miles east of Union, was destroyed by fire Wednesday morning. The fire broke out about 4 o'clock and was beyond control before discovered. The property destroyed was worth about $4000, which will be a total loss to the owner, as there was no insurance. About 150,000 feet of lumber in the yards was saved from the flames." (Corvallis Daily Gazette)
