RUTHERFORD & HEACOCK
September 29, 1905: "Rutherford and Heycock have recently bought 700 feet of water front and are engaged in laying the foundations of a 40,000 foot sawmill. They have secured one of the finest sites on the River, having the railroad on one side and deep water on the other. Their purchase includes some eight acres and is in the heart of town, it being the only mill site that at present touches on a platted street, a condition that is now in process of change as a street will be opened the full length of town." October 6, 1905: "Messrs. Rutherford & Heycock are progressing rapidly with their new mill. The main building will be 32 by 100 feet, and stand at right angles with the river. The Boiler and engine room will be 32 by 32 feet and have a concrete floor two feet thick." (The Columbia Register)
November 3, 1905: "Rutherford and Heacock have received a very large Atlas Engine 120 horse power for their new mill. The furnaces and boilers are nearly completed and the engine will be put in place this week." (The Columbia Register)
January 26, 1906: "Pile drivers are at work at Rutherford and Heycock's mill driving piling for more new docks, to provide needed room for loading both cars and vessels." (The Columbia Register)
February 2, 1906: "The A.&.C.R.R. is building a spur at Rutherford & Heacock's Mill, or rather the mill owners are paying for everything except the laying of the iron." (The Columbia Register)
