LAKEVIEW LUMBER COMPANY
Lakeview
July 15, 1941: "Approximately 100,000 feet a week will be the drying capacity of the new dry kiln which the Lakeview Lumber company plans to construct immediately. Additions to the company office also show that the company is booming." (The Evening Herald)
March 2, 1942: "The Lakeview Lumber company started its sawmill on February 16, with 38 men employed. According to Dave DeArmond a night shift will be added within the next week." (The Evening Herald)
July 20, 1942: "The second lumber mill fire in southern Oregon in five days early Sunday morning totally destroyed the Lakeview Lumber company's sawmill but spared the yard and dry kilns, according to meager reports reaching here today from Lakeview.
It was reported that origin of the fire was unknown but that the mill seemed to explode in flames at about 1 a.m. Sunday. Fire fighters kept the blaze from spreading to the mill yard and kilns. The mill does not have a planer but sells its lumber in the rough to box factories and planing mills in the area.
The firm, owned by David DeArmond and operated by a Mr. Ohlson, employed more than 50 men in two shifts. It was believed that the bulk of its production was devoted directly or indirectly to war orders. No estimate of the loss was reported." (Herald and News)

July 21, 1942: "No announcement has yet been made as to whether or not an effort will be made to obtain permission to secure necessary equipment for a new sawmill by Lakeview Lumber company officials, whose mill burned to the ground early Sunday morning.
It was expected that David DeArmand, mayor of Lakeview and co-owner of the razed mill, would reveal the firm's decision shortly. Lou Ohlson, formerly of the Adams Lumber company which later became the Goose Lake Box company, is part owner of the mill.
Sparks from a burner which is used jointly with the Oregon Lumber and Moulding company are believed to have caused the Sunday blaze.
The Lakeview mill was purchased in 1939 from the receiver of Lakeview Pine Lumber company and has been one of the largest producers in this community for the past three years." (Herald and News)
