COOPER & HANEY
West of Drain
March 31, 1905: “A terrible shooting took place last Friday morning at Cooper & Haney's sawmill, ten miles west of Drain.
A difficulty occurred between A. E. Cooper and Herman Shook when Shook shot Cooper killing him instantly, then killed Paul Howse who was present. Shook next sent a bullet through his own brain.
Shook had been working for Cooper & Haney and it was alleged that he was on too friendly terms with Cooper's wife. Cooper was taken ill a few days before and the physicians pronounced it due to poisoning. Cooper accused Shook of trying to poison him and this brought on the quarrel with the fatal results.” (The West)
