March 28, 1946: "The Rauch Timber company, operated by Harold J. Rauch and his nephew, John C. Rauch, from Tacoma, Wash., are in process of installing a tie mill four miles up Sandy creek, near Remote, and expects to start cutting in a few days, it is understood.
The new mill, one of many to start operations in this vicinity in recent months, will employ 10 men. They are cutting for the Cheney Lumber company and are starting in on a stand of about three million feet of timber on Sandy creek." (Myrtle Point Herald)
