November 15, 1923: “The Stout Lumber company, operating two sawmills at North Bend, is preparing to open a large area of excellent timber in the Seven Devils district, fifteen miles southwesterly from the city. Several miles of logging railway from the timber to the head of tidewater on South Inlet will be constructed and two logging camps will be operated.” (The Drain Enterprise)
September 25, 1924: “The Stout company shingle mill at North Bend, burned some time ago, has been rebuilt and started sawing shingles Monday. The mill will run continuously through the fall and winter.” (The Drain Enterprise)
January 2, 1925: "Manager Bock of the Stout Lumber company mills have announces that he will add a night crew to Mill B, beginning January 1. This will furnish employment to about 75 additional men who have been idle for some time and who make their homes here. Mill A will continue to operate with only the day crew as at present." February 5, 1925: “One hundred million feet of fine timber, mostly white cedar, will be opened by a projected logging road which the Stout Lumber company will construct this spring on South slough in Coos county.” (The Drain Enterprise)
