December 15, 1920: "The Smith River Timber company, with a capital stock of $500,000 has been incorporated and represents another step towards consummation of the purchase of the Gardiner Mill company holdings by a syndicate, to have headquarters in Marshfield. The deal is one of the largest handled in southwestern Oregon this year and includes the Gardiner townsite and mill, also several thousand acres of timber." (The Evening Herald)
