JOHN DORNATH & SONS
Halls Creek
September 9, 1926: "All details are agreed to and agreements are expected to be signed this afternoon which will mean a shingle mill on Halls creek in the near future and very likely a box factory and white cedar mill later.
John Dornath and son of Comstock are the prime movers in the undertaking, and the property of John Root of Arago. Mr. Dornath and son were looking over the field last week, spending several days going over the timber belt on Halls creek. He stated to the American this morning he is satisfied there is supply enough to last ten years, possibly 20 years. Mr. Dornath and son are at present operating a shingle mill and box factory at Comstock, but the supply of raw material is nearing exhaustion. All the material turned out by the factory on Halls creek will be shipped over the Southern Pacific from Myrtle Point, Mr. Dornath stated.
The Dornath family have force sufficient to operate the shingle ill and a small box factory, but other help will be employed in the woods. The Dornath family consists of Mr. and Mrs. Dornath and ten children.
The agreement to be signed this afternoon calls for the shingle mill to be in operation not later than the first of April. It also requires owners of timber to supply the raw material at the mill." (Southern Coos County American)

July 14, 1927: "John Dornath was in Monday from his shingle mill and box factory on Halls creek and reported things were moving along in a satisfactory manner with the new concern, which is known as John Dornath & Sons. Mr. Dornath reported they are giving employment to 10 men. It is their purpose to employ only local people in the woods and at the mill and factory.
Mr. Dornath says they completed filling the order for the new Myrtle Point Junior high school last week, which amounted to 82,000. This was the first order direct, that the new mill filled.
Mr. Dornath is an old shingle mill manufacturer, owning a mill at Comstock at the present time, which is operated by one of his sons. He says the firm can take orders now for future delivery of boxes and crates etc." (Southern Coos County American)
