BEERS SAWMILL
3 miles southeast of Gresham
April 22, 1893: "News was brought to Gresham today that William Malcom, who has been employed in Beer's sawmill, three miles southeast of town all winter, had gone violently insane. His dementia seems to be of a religious turn, and at times he is very uncontrollable and very dangerous. Sheriff Kelley was informed of the case by wire and sent a deputy out, who took the unfortunate man to Portland." (The Dalles Times-Mountaineer)
