April 10, 1869: "On Thursday afternoon Mr. F. M. Westfall met with a dangerous and painful accident. He was engaged in loading lumber on his dray at Comley's mill, when the animal attached to the dray started to run. In attempting to stop the animal Mr. Westfall became entangled with the lines, and received a kick on the right leg and hip, which knocked him down, the dray passing over him. The leg is broken in two places, about four inches apart, and is a dangerous as well as painful would. Drs. Tate and Alexander rendered immediate surgical aid, and Mr. Westfall, at last accounts, was resting east." (Albany Register)
