COAST PACIFIC LUMBER CO.
Coos Bay
September 3, 1953: "One of the largest timber and saw mill deals consumated in this section for some time was made last Friday evening when the Coast Pacific Lumber Co. of Coos Bay purchased the saw mill and timber holdings of the McClellan Lumber Co. of Myrtle Point. The new owners are now operating the mill here. Lee Nelson Sibley, of Coos Bay, is superintending the mill operation here for the Coast Pacific company and Bill Barnes will be in charge of logging operations and log purchasing. The deal not only included the local mill, approximately 30,000,000 feet of timber---a five year supply at full capacity---but a major part of the logging equipment. Dement, Dunn & Meldrum, local attorneys, handled the legal end of the sale.
The McClellan Lumber Co. was formed by Fred L. McClellan in the year 1940, purchasing the property from Jack Powers, and has been one of Myrtle Point's most substantial payrolls. The new owners plan to run the mill at full capacity. George and Donald McClellan constituted the McClellan Co. since their father's death, having been associated with him in the operation of the business for some years.
Both the McClellans plan to stay in Myrtle Point, their future plans being indefinite at this time.
The consideration for the sale was not made public." (Myrtle Point Herald)
