March 17, 1943: "The remains of the Pernell and Gertson planer mill that burned down Saturday morning are being cleared away to see what can be salvaged." (Herald and News)
April 23, 1943: "Logging operations were started in the woods Thursday for Pernell and Gertson's mill. The rain Sunday night stopped the trucks from hauling. Planking is being put on the roads. The sawmill started operations Monday. Many of the former Algoma employes are now employed by Pernell and Gertson, and have taken up residence in the community. Many of the logging crew are living at 'Uncle Tom's Cabins." (Herald and News)
