KLAMATH BASIN PINE MILLS
Klamath County
February 27, 1950: "A one-by-two inch cleat almost two feet long was rammed through the upper part of the right thigh of Daniel S. McInvale, 43-year-old sawmill worker, early this morning.
McInvale, an employe of Klamath Basin Pine mill, was feeding lumber into the stripping machine when a kick-back flew off and jammed through his leg.
Hospital authorities reported no broken bones, the piece of timber struck only the fleshy part of the man's leg. Surgery was necessary to remove the wood embedded in the leg.
McInvale said the accident occurred shortly after 8 a. m. when he reported to work.
The cleat was around two feet long when it crushed, blunt end first, through his leg. Mill employes had to cut the outside end from the board before McInvale could be loaded in the ambulance. Kalers moved him to Klamath Valley hospital." (Herald and News)
