PUGET TIMBER COMPANY
Josephine County - Kerby
September 23, 1943: "The Cabakco mill which is rapidly nearing completion at Kerby, is the name given to the new mill which is being erected below the highway near the former Sachse garage. The Puget Timber company will furnish the logs and operate the mill.
Plans at first called for an electrical operated mill, but because of the scarcity of materials for this type of mill, steam power will be used.
Oscar Waterman, who is in charge, states that the mill will have a 25,000 foot capacity, and hopes to be on operation in less than six weeks.
The Puget Timber company, which has made a specialty of piling for the past several years, has logs contracted for the next two years and will furnish work to local men steadily the year around. The new mill will enable the company to use the available timber too large for piling. This will bring a larger pay roll into the community." (Illinois Valley News)
