January 2, 1901: "Hawkins Bros. own and operate a saw and planing mill. It has two sites, one of which is on Maury mountain and the other is on Ochoco creek twenty miles east of Prineville. At each of these sites they cut sights of first-class lumber, supplying the demand for miles around. They have large stocks on hand now and it is their purpose to keep them so in order that customers will not be compelled to purchase green lumber direct from the saws." (Crook County Journal)
November 7, 1901: "On or about December first, we will move our saw mill to the John Day. All parties wanting lumber will please take notice. Hawkins Bros." (Crook County Journal)
