February 27, 1889: “The Santiam Mill Co. is constructing a side track from main track to their mill. They expect to ship from 4 to 5 car loads of lumber in a few weeks.” (Albany Daily Democrat)

May 16, 1889: “The mill was laying idle last week, new machinery was added to it. They will soon over haul the time lost, since they can nearly manufacture twice as much lumber daily.” (Albany Daily Democrat)
May 23, 1889: “Frank Hertz, one of the Santiam L. Co's loggers while chopping a tree cut an ugly gash in his foot. He went to his place at Crawfordsville last Wednesday where he will remain until his foot gets well.” (Albany Daily Democrat)
June 6, 1889: “The Santiam Lumber Company is building new wharf and are also putting in their pony saw, their mill is getting to be quite a structure and is far from being finished yet.” (Albany Daily Democrat)
