June 24, 1926: "The L. B. Menefee Lumber company's mill and yards, located on the Columbia River, on the Oregon side, below Rainier, were destroyed by fire early today. Reports received here did not tell the cause of the fire, and the amount of the loss was not stated. The Longview fire department crossed the Columbia River on a ferry to aid the Rainier fighters. They confined their efforts to save the dock and a portion of the stored lumber." (The News-Review)
June 25, 1926: "Damage of from $225,000 to $250,000 has been placed on the loss by fire of the L.B. Menefee Lumber company mill at Rainier, Or., which burned yesterday. The mill which cut about 100,000 feet daily was operating only one shift." (The Capital Journal)
