April 27, 1950: "Fire which broke out last night at about 8 o'clock, in a sawdust fuel bin at the Ochoco Lumber company's plant east of Prineville, made a short but spectacular display and, for a time, threatened the main building of the mill.
Night crews on duty at the mill brought the flames under control, and the Prineville volunteer fire department also answered the call.
Stuart Shelk, manager of the company, said today that it is not possible at present to estimate the damage, but that it is not believed to be great.
The planing mill will remain closed until next Monday, while the fuel bin is being replaced." (The Bend Bulletin)
