CUSHMAN LUMBER COMPANY
|
Lane County - Cushman
|
February 8, 1929: “After negotiations which have extended over a period of weeks the Owens Bros. Lumber Co. of Cushman has finally been absorbed by the Herbert A. Templeton interests, one of the larger lumbering concerns of the Northwest. Altho control of the operating plant was turned over to the new owners a week ago the actual transfer of the property was not affected until yesterday.
Mr. Templeton has personally made exhaustive research of the milling possibilities of this section and has every confidence of extensive and profitable development. His connections in the lumber industry cover every phase of the game from logging to retailing. Personally his headquarters are in Portland.
The Cushman mill will be incorporated under the name of the Cushman Lumber Co. Louis Charneski will be the superintendent. He is now in charge. He comes into the vicinity, as he says, 'to be one of us'.
This mill has been undergoing extensive repairs and improvements for the past year. Other improvements were contemplated by the Owens Bros. Co. and for the most part these will be carried out. The new company will continue the plans for water shipments as well as by rail.
The Owens Bros. Co will retain an interest in the mill, but their efforts will be devoted entirely to logging. They are particularly experienced in this capacity and their reputation has placed them into a position to negotiate an exceptionally large contract, in addition to supplying the local mill, further particulars of which will be mentioned later. Taken altogether the changes just brought about promise a gigantic stride ahead in our lumber industry.” (The Siuslaw Oar)
