February 10, 1955: "Charles Lamb, a millwright at the Coquille Valley Lumber company was injured Monday, 9:30 a.m., and taken to the Newport General hospital. His left arm was caught between the rollers of the edger. The machine was shut off at a given signal and the rollers were released into position when Lamb ran his left arm in between them to replace the sawdust shield which had fallen out of line.
Two bones were broken, one in the forearm and in the wrist, the wrist and hand were crushed. The wrist watch was ground into the flesh. Several operations will be required to reshape the hand but the doctor states Lamb will not lose his arm." (Corvallis Gazette-Times)

September 5, 1955: "The Coquille Valley Lumber Co. dedicated a new green veneer plant on Five Rivers Sunday, Aug. 28. The firm, whose forest industries include logging, lumbering and the green veneer plant, also has a mill at Swisshome. Noble Chowning, general manager, extended an invitation to everyone to come and be present at the dedication. Quite a few of Swisshome residents who are employes at the mill drove to the new plant for the dedication." (Register-Guard)
