July 18, 1935: “The Apex Lumber company has purchased the Lystul-Lawson mill, and it is being put in repair for immediate operation by the mill superintendent, D. H. Miller, formerly of Napton, Washington, and Portland. For the time being the mill will be operated with present equipment, which is in very good condition. Logs will be purchased from the Ingham Lumber company and logging will be done by Woodroffe's. Owners of the Apex Lumber company are reported to be C. E. Murphy, T. C. Donaca, Ivan Phipps, Dr. F. E. Butler and Earl Hughes, all of Portland.” (The Glendale Log)
March 16, 1936: "An early morning fire Sunday destroyed the boiler house at the Apex Lumber company mill in Glendale. Volunteer firemen, playing streams of water on the main structures, docks and stock piles at the mill, managed to keep the blaze confined to the boiler room, which was a complete loss."
