Jackson County - Ashland
October 18, 1900: "Coggins Bros. the saw mill men who are acquiring a large body of timber land west of Coles for the purpose of converting it into lumber, are negotiating with Mrs. Rufus Cole for the purchase of 200 acres of her land at Cole's station for a site upon which to erect their new saw mills. July 24, 1924: "A lease for 25 years of a municipally owned industrial site was granted to A. C. Coggins, Dunsmuir lumberman, by the Ashland city council. According to the terms of the lease, Mr. Coggins must have a box factory on the site within six months." (Halsey Enterprise)
August 12, 1927: "A transfer chain three hundred feet long, operated by electricity and capable of sorting and sizing lumber, is the latest improvement to the box factory according to an announcement made by manager Arthur L. Coggins. This is a mammoth affair, and enables the local concern to save considerable time. The factory has been working over time, every night recently trying to catch up with the orders that are coming in for grape boxes. These are shipped to California, and according to Manager Coggins fully ninety per cent of the total output of the factory is absorbed by the California market." (The Ashland Register)
March 30, 1928: "L. Wilton of Shale city is cutting logs for the Coggins saw mill which is being erected on East Main street near the box factory. The logs will be trucked from Shale city. Mr. Coggin's has also bought the timber on a large acreage of land located in Tomlan canyon and has a crew of men engaged in making a new road into the timber tract so it can be hauled into the mill."
