August 22, 1941: "Roy Varner of Herman Lumber company camp was lost in the nearby woods for over eight hours Sunday, At 5 p. m. he went to look for a fire-wood tree, and when he had not returned at 9:30, his wife became alarmed, and told the neighbors. Nine men formed a hunting party and searched the surrounding country until n1:15 a. m. when he was found, hardly a mile from camp, in a dense undergrowth of vine maple." (Medford Mail Tribune)
