LINDSAY LUMBER COMPANY
Vernonia
December 14, 1923: “Lindsay Lumber Co., Vernonia, has a 30,000 capacity sawmill, which began operating last spring. This plant ships its products.” (Vernonia Eagle)
March 21, 1929: "The Lindsay Lumber company has resumed operation after a three month shutdown." (Vernonia Eagle)
October 11, 1935: "The Lindsay lumber mill has been down for a few days while logging is being shifted from east of the river to the Harris tract on the hill to the west. E. A. Jones, who has charge of the logging contract, has purchased a new Allis-Chalmers caterpillar tractor to log with." (Vernonia Eagle)
December 6, 1936: "The Lindsay Lumber company's mill, operated by Ben Bennett, will shut down within a few days because of the need for extensive overhauling of machinery. Hope was expressed by Mr. Bennett yesterday that arrangements might be made for repairs, enabling the mill to resume, but nothing definite has been decided. Sawing is expected to be completed this weekend, and planing some time next week.
The mill idle for many years, was rehabilitated by Mr. Bennett in 1934 and performed a distinct service to the community in providing work for a number of local men who had been on relief, and in making it possible to secure lumber in Vernonia, then hard to obtain in the limited quantities suited for local needs." (Vernonia Eagle)
