HACKETT SAWMILL
Josephine County - Powell Creek
April 14, 1905: "John Hackett, who conducts a shoeshop in Grants Pass during the winter and operates a sawmill on Powell creek during the dry season, will close his shoe shop this week and leave Saturday for his sawmill. He has men at the mill getting all in readiness and he expects to begin sawing the first of next week. W. S. Dow, who for the past two years has been sawyer in a mill at Hilts, will be his sawyer and Geo. Herriott will be engineer, a position he has held for the two last seasons. Mr. Hackett will not let the logging by contract, but will do it with his own teams. He will deliver his lumber in Grants Pass and will have it hauled by the thousand. It will require about 10 teams to haul the lumber as fast as cut. Mr. Hackett's timber is mostly pine, of which he has a fine body." (Weekly Rogue River Courier)
