November 14, 1904: "McCollum & Wilbur's sash and door factory at McCollum's mill on Hinkle Creek is practically completed. The main building is 30 feet wide and 80 feet long. Both the sawmill and factory will soon be running full blast." (Roseburg Plaindealer)
April 9, 1910: “Last Thursday the engine at McCollum's mill on Hinkle Creek started up while David McCollum, the owner, was filing a saw. His right hand was badly cut and he received two painful wounds on the leg and thigh. Dr. Gilmour took 37 stitches in the wounds. Wednesday Mr. McCollum, accompanied by Mrs. McCollum, came to this city, where they will remain a few days in order to be near a physician. Mr. McCollum suffers very little pain and is able to walk on crutches. He will doubtless be all right in a few days.” (The News-Review)
