August 16, 1917: “The Springfield Planing Mill company has called for bids for a large amount of hardwood lumber. The company has accepted a contract for the manufacture of 1,000,000 tent stakes for the United States government, according to an announcement made by H. E. Pitts, manager of the company. The work of making the stakes will begin August 15.” (The Forest Grove Express)
November 22, 1917: "Eight women are employed in the plant of the Springfield Planing Mill company at Springfield, and the proprietors of the mill have found the experiment such a success that it is probable more will be employed." (Cloverdale Courier)
July 23, 1931: “Damage of approximately $16,000 was caused by a fire which destroyed the Springfield planing mill and an adjacent electric sawmill recently. Origin of the fire was in doubt.” (The New Era)
