SPAULDING BROTHERS
Cow Creek
September 25, 1914: “Spaulding Bros., who have been operating a sawmill at Swede Basin, 27 miles from Grants Pass for several years, are now operating 8 ½ miles up Cow Creek and shipping from Glendale.
The lumber is being hauled to this city by an auto truck which is attracting no little attention. The truck is owned by J. C. Morey & Son and they expect to make seven trips from the mill to town every 24 hours, averaging a little more than 3000 ft to the load. Quite a little difficulty was experienced Thursday, the first day of hauling, on account of the culverts, several of which were so weakened by the enormous weight that they has to be repaired before the truck could cross again.
The principal saving is in the loading and unloading. There are rollers on the bed of the truck and the entire load is dropped off at once, a process requiring but a few minutes. The truck will be in operation for at least thirty days, the lumber being shipped to the box factory at Grants Pass.” (The Glendale News)
