February 2, 1940: "A new lumber mill providing a large payroll for Pilot Rock, will be located here, it was announced today by E. C. Kern of Wenatchee, Wash., who will be president and manager.
The company has been incorporated and will be known as the Pilot Rock Lumber Co. Private timber holdings, including the timber owned by the Security Savings and Trust Co., south of here, have been bought. Construction of the mill is to start shortly. A daily cut of from 75,000 to 100,000 feet of lumber is expected." (The Bend Bulletin)
