March 31, 1916: “A sawmill is under course of construction on the right-of-way of the Willamette-Pacific railroad two miles east of Richardson, and 35 miles from Eugene, which will cut a million and a half feet of fir logs there belonging to R. M. Baker, conductor on the Willamette-Pacific train.
The mill is being constructed by Bigelow and Doane, and should be ready for operation in about 10 days, says Mr. Baker. It will have a capacity of 20,000 feet of lumber per day.
The logs were cut in clearing the right-of-way for the railroad, and Mr. Baker purchased the logs as an investment.
While the mill is being erected primarily to saw these, it may be a permanent plant.---Register.” (The West)

May 15, 1916: "The Bigelow-Doane Lumber Co. was incorporated with capitalization of $5000. The president is M. Bigelow, of Walterville, C. W. Doane of Eugene, is vice president and E. V. Ferguson, of Salem, is the other director of the company. The main office of the company will be in Eugene." (The Capital Journal)
