WAKEMAN & SON
Drain
April 12, 1923: “The Powrie Brothers sawmill was sold last Friday to G. E. Wakeman & Son, lumber manufacturers, from New York State. Messrs. Wakeman & Son besides purchasing the sawmill and machinery have also bought the Powrie timber holdings in sections 23 and 24 containing some 3,500,000 feet.
The new owners are experienced sawmill men and are familiar with every detail of the lumber business. They are now engaged in putting the mill in shape and will be in full operation in a few days. They expect to employ between 25 and 30 men and it is probable this force will be increased before long.
The advent of these new mill men in our community will be welcomed on every hands. It means an increased payroll and better times all around.” (The Drain Enterprise)
