G. G. OLIVER
Jackson County - Rogue River
August 30, 1929: "The new sawmill located in the north end of the city between the S. P. Tracks and the Rogue river will soon be ready for a regular run. Mr. G. G. Oliver, owner of the mill stated that he has been having considerable trouble in getting the equipment for the mill and thus opening of the operation has been hampered. He was able however to make a test run last week and within a few days expects to put the mill into full operation. A large mill pone has been made out of the pits dug in the old gravel operation and a pond with a capacity of a million feet of lumber has been provided for. The mill pond is flooded by water from springs near the mill site. Mr. Oliver expects to manufacture much of the Evans valley timber into lumber at his mill and he plans upon replacing the present steam plant with electricity and enlarging the mill capacity to possibly double that amount. There is some talk of a box factory for Rogue River as well and every effort will be made to interest such an enterprise to come to the city.
The Oliver mill is employing about six or eight men at present with J. V. Wilson as millwright and with the opening for regular business it is expected the crew will be enlarged." (The Central Point Star)
