Lane County - Swisshome

April 5, 1956: "The sale of the planer, dry kiln and 35-unit housing project of the old Co-op Mill here was announced Wednesday by the Georgia-Pacific Plywood Corp.
The new owners are Mr. and Mrs. Steven Vaughn, who also operate the Vaughn Lumber Co., at Five Rivers, southwest of Philomath.
The Vaughns said they intend to get the planer and dry kiln into operation as soon as possible. They said they planned to purchase rough green lumber from local mills and finish it for shipping. They also plan to make some laminated timbers. Wednesday afternoon they said they did not know how many men hey would employ.
The Co-op Mill was sold last November to the plywood firm. Georgia-Pacific said it planned to add the Co-op's timber land to its holdings and liquidate the mill. The Co-op Mill was Swisshome's principal industries. Its closure caused considerable unemployment here through the winter and many families have moved away." (Register-Guard)
