May 24, 1918: "The Hubbard interests, which were negotiating for a mill site and logs in the Umpqua country, have closed dealings and surveyors are already on the site which is at the entrance of Rainbow Inlet into the river, south of the Johnson mill location. Logs will be secured from Walter McKay it is understood." (The World)
July 2, 1918: "Russell J. Hubbard, of Portland, who is preparing for construction of a large sawmill at Reedsport, on the lower Umpqua River, hopes that the mill may be put in operation within 90 days. The plant will be erected near the mouth of Scofield Creek, beside a body of timber owned by Mr. Hubbard and his associates. The building will be 54 x 300 feet and the mill will have a daily capacity of 150,000 feet." (Morning Oregonian)
August 24, 1919: "The new Hubbard sawmill which is operating on lumber for its own use in docks and improvements, already is supplied with a spur and when it starts on commercial sawing will have immediate use of railway shipments." (The Sunday Oregonian)
