August 1, 1890: "Fire broke out in the engine room of Renfrew & Pillit's planing mill and box factory at Talent, a village on the railroad four miles north of Ashland, last night at 11 o'clock, destroying it and the store, hall, and butcher shop belonging to James Helms. Losses of the planing mill $3500; insurance $2800. Other losses about $2500; insurance $600." (Weekly Oregon Statesman)
