April 26, 1943: "Modoc Pine, an associate company of the Shaw Lumber company, Monday took over operation of the Ackley Lumber company, it was announced by J. Royal Shaw, president of Shaw Lumber company.
For the past three years the Modoc Pine company has been taking the cut of the Ackley mill. With the death of Harry Ackley, Modoc Pine is now taking the mill over on a lease and will be run on logs shipped from Tionesta to Klamath Falls.
John A. Shaw, vice president of Shaw Lumber company, will serve as manager of Modoc Pine company.
E. M. Bubb is administrator of the Ackley estate, and the mill has been leased from him, J. Royal Shaw stated. Bubb represents the Ackley Lumber company, and Edna Ackley, widow of Harry Ackley.
William Horbelt, who has been with Shaw Lumber company for a number of years, will act as mill foreman, and William Jensen will have charge of the yard and shipping. There will be no other changes in the mill personnel, it was stated." (Herald and News)
