Lane County - Springfield

June 1, 1950: "Fire leveled the Bennett Lumber company mill here (Springfield) early today with a loss of some $200,000.
Flames were noticed first at 3:30 a. m., near the planer, and spread so fast one of the two night watchman had to run for his life.
Only the sawdust burner was left standing. The only equipment saved were a carrier, two trucks and a fuel loader which were driven out before the fire reached them." (Herald and News)
