SMITH WOOD PRODUCTS COMPANY
Coos County - Coquille
August 14, 1936: "The new smokestack at the Smith Wood-Products plant is a mighty fine place to view the Coquille valley from. It towers 178 feet in the air and is seven feet in diameter at the top, eleven feet at the base. Its walls are five inches thick at the top and it is of steel-reinforced concrete, with the steel criss-crossed two ways.
The base on which it rests contains tons of steel and rests on 45 deep-driven piles." (The Coquille Valley Sentinel)

September 15, 1936: "John Cartwright, employed at the Smith Wood-Products plant was taken to the Coquille Hospital on Tuesday to have his left hand operated on. He caught it in a saw and when he jerked his arm back he hit the rolls and the hand was drawn to the saw again. He lost all the fingers and the thumb.
Arthur Albertson was taken to the hospital this morning. Yesterday afternoon he was hit by a log which jumped up when it struck the blocks on the carriage. The log hit him on the chest rendering him unconscious." (The Coquille Valley Sentinel)
