April 15, 1950: "A lumber boom used in a loading operation at the Elk Lumber company near here struck and killed Wendell Paul Flipse, 25, Medford, yesterday." (Herald and News)
December 14, 1950: "The Elk Lumber company was the only bidder for a tract of 3,700,000 board feet of timber on O. and C. lands located on Lost creek in northeastern Jackson county at an oral auction sale held December 11 at the district forester's office in the Medford city hall.
The timber was purchased for the minimum appraised prices of: Douglas fir, $17.30 per M; ponderosa pine, $24.20 per M; Sugar Pine, $32.80 per M; white fir, $11,55 per M and incense cedar $8.20 per M." (Illinois Valley News)
