MARV EARLY
4 miles southwest of Scio
August 9, 1948: "Fire of unknown origin Friday night completely destroyed the small sawmill plant of Marv Early on the Delbert Merritt farm about four miles southwest of Scio. A caterpillar tractor was badly damaged by fire and about 2000 feet of lumber went up in smoke.
G. F. Bryan, Scio rural fire chief, accompanied by local volunteer firemen, took the Scio rural fire district truck to the scene. Bryan reported on his return that the fire alarm was not given until about 7 o'clock Saturday morning, and that most of the damage evidently was done during the night.
Timber in proximity to the mill site was ignited and fire fighters remained long after the mill was destroyed in order to control timber fire." (Capital Journal)
